Compass In The Community Awards 2007
Congratulations to the Eurest team at Stirling Management Centre, Stirling University, whose entry was judged to be the best at this year’s Compass in the Community Awards.
During the past three years over 300 pupils from three local schools have passed through the “Hospitality Profession Promotion Programme” on work placements, with some attending one day a week and others progressing to SVQ’s (Scottish Vocational Qualifications). This innovative project, involving all employees at the centre who act as buddies for the young people, is proving to be a great way of giving them real in-depth experience while identifying those who have potential to work in the hospitality industry.
Fiona Graham, operations manager at Stirling Management Centre, and colleague Paul McGurl were presented with the gold award and a cheque for £10,000 to further develop the project.
This year’s awards attracted many high quality entries, with four short-listed teams invited to present to a panel of judges at Dartmouth House in London.
The standard was brilliant, exceeding previous years, with all those short-listed presenting excellent projects and making it more difficult than ever to choose the winners. The judges were impressed with everyone’s passion, the alignment of their projects with business objectives, their ability for growth and replication across the company, and the way the projects involved employees, clients and local communities.
The silver award of £5,000 was presented to Colin Henry, business development director, ESS Offshore, for their three-year programme with Fraserburgh Academy.
Two merit awards were made; one to ESS (Army Training Estate) for their rehabilitation of offenders programme and one to Scolarest for the “Putting Fun back into Food” programme.
Stirling Management Centre’s project will be automatically entered into this year’s Compass in the Community global awards.
