Last week, Compass Group UK & Ireland picked up a prestigious gold award for our work supporting the Armed Forces.

Now in its fifth year, the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Awards, represent the highest badge of honour available to businesses and organisations who employ veterans from our Armed Forces. It’s all about supporting those individuals transitioning out of service into a new career, whilst also providing flexibility for our active reservists.

Awarded by the MOD to those who have shown outstanding support to the military community and the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC), it is the ultimate accolade and one which we’re very proud of. Set out in the Covenant are a series of pledges which as a company, we agree to uphold. You can review these here.

Chris Garside, Managing Director of Compass Group UK & Ireland, Mark Webster, Managing Director of Compass’ Defence, Offshore and Remote division and I attended the ceremony which took place on Monday 12th November at Lancaster House in London. It was a fantastic privilege to receive this award, which was presented by HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Those who have served our country so courageously deserve the full support of organisations across the public and private sector. The breadth and diversity of this year’s Gold Award winners shows how business support for the armed forces continues to flourish. I offer my gratitude and congratulations to all the winners.”

We’re thrilled to have been recognised for our long-term commitment to the Armed Forces. We’re passionate about offering opportunities for our colleagues who are part of the Armed Forces community, by creating a more flexible and understanding work environment in which to operate. I would personally like to thank all those involved in making this happen.”

We’re always looking to share your great stories from around our businesses. If you’re part of the Compass family and from a previous armed forces background (or one of our active reservists), why not share your stories with our Communications team?
