It’s Compass’ FM Appreciation Week

This week we are celebrating our Facilities Management (FM) teams. We launched FM Appreciation Week last year to coincide with World FM Day (which this year takes place on 11th May).

This is an opportunity to celebrate the vital work that our facilities teams do. Often these are people working behind the scenes, supporting our clients across hospitals, schools, military bases and manufacturing warehouses – to name a few! The pandemic shone a much-needed spotlight on the importance of FM teams. More and more we’re rightly seeing their roles being recognised as the essential functions that they are and FM appreciation week is a great opportunity to say thank you.

FM makes up a third of our overall Compass Group UK&I business, so this week we are highlighting colleagues who work on business helpdesks, guest services, cleaning, security, outdoor services, plus mechanical and electrical maintenance teams. There is no doubt these people are often the unsung heroes who ensure the smooth running of sites, units, and offices 24/7, all year round.

I am also pleased to announce that we are relaunching our internal Compass Facilities Management Forum. This is a group of specialist colleagues who represent the very best of our people, our supply partners, our experience and knowledge. Our vision is to use this combined expertise to review cutting-edge systems and practices to ensure we deliver the best services possible and share best practice across our sectors and with clients. The technology and sustainability advancements in this space are fantastic and our Forum ensures we are at the very forefront of innovations. It also helps colleagues working in FM to learn and develop, as part of our commitment to provide opportunities through our Career Pathways programme.

Across Compass this week, we’re asking our people to celebrate the amazing work of our FM teams and share stories of those who go above and beyond. I’d ask everyone to take a moment and reflect on the roles of these individuals – it might be at your place of work, at your child’s school, college or university, or at a leisure facility that you visited at the weekend. These people are performing a job that we’d all be lost without and this week is our chance to acknowledge them and say thank you.

If you have a FM story, please post on social media using #FMAppreciationWeek.
