Compass Healthcare Hero: Christabel Costa

News

Christabel works in the Paediatric Intensive Care unit at the Portland Hospital and has been praised by staff and patients for her dedication and proactive approach in keeping the unit spotless.

Under normal circumstances this is a pressurised area to work in, but over the last few months the workload has increased, as cleaning procedures were enhanced to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. It’s this time that has proved that nothing is too much trouble for Christabel and how much she cares about what she does.

Over the last few months Christabel has needed to wear extensive PPE while cleaning the wards including a respiratory hood - given her contact with patients in the Intensive Care Unit. She adapted well to these changes working tirelessly and with a smile on her face.

During the pandemic she suffered some of her own health issues, needing some dental work, that was causing her a lot of discomfort. However, with dentists mainly closed due to lockdown restrictions Christabel insisted on continuing to work, as she wanted to do her bit to help and didn’t want to leave her teammates to cover her shifts.

The hospital’s Ward Manager has singled her out for praise and it’s clear that Christabel is committed to going above and beyond to help and support the patients she works with and her team.

Christabel has been absolutely unbelievable during this difficult period and shows a real passion for her work. Polite to everyone, she has a great sense of humour and is a much-loved member of the housekeeping team.

“I absolutely love my job and am so proud to have been able to support The Portland Hospital team during this time.” - Christabel Costa, Housekeeping Assistant, The Portland Hospital (Hca)
