RZSS Edinburgh Zoo and official catering partner Levy Restaurants UK has achieved Bronze from the Soil Association’s Food for Life Served Here award. The recognition provides visitors to the venue with a guarantee that they are eating meals which are freshly prepared, healthy and sustainable.
Edinburgh Zoo’s Grasslands Restaurant, operated by Levy Restaurants UK, was recognised for its commitment to enhancing its food offer by meeting ethical standards on nutrition, freshness, sustainability and animal welfare.
The Food for Life Served Here award is supported by the Scottish Government, and is a widely respected scheme which is raising standards of food quality, provenance and sustainability in public and private sector catering.
100% of the fish served is sustainable and the restaurant never uses fish that is on the Marine Conservation Society ‘fish to avoid’ list.
Local food suppliers are prominent on the Grasslands Restaurant menu and include: tea and coffee, from Edinburgh merchants, Brodies; ice cream and dairy from Mackie’s of Scotland; butchery products from Campbells Meat; fruit and vegetables from Mark Murphy & Partner Ltd; and bread from The Breadwinner Bakery.

The team works hard with local suppliers and listens to feedback from visitors to create fun and exciting menus which are healthy, fresh, home-made and that taste great too. This is part of a long term programme and we will continue to develop and look forward to building on this achievement by going for gold.”
