Foodbuy’s gala dinner raises £125,000 for Duchenne UK

News

Foodbuy, a leading food procurement organisation, hosted a gala dinner at Twickenham Stadium last week and raised over £125,000 for its charity partner, Duchenne UK.

The third annual Foodbuy gala dinner saw over 170 guests from across the procurement, food & beverage and non-food sectors, enjoy a special three course dinner in the newly refurbished East Wing of Twickenham Stadium. The menu was prepared by Culinary Director, Nick Vadis and a brigade of Compass Group chefs with Foodbuy’s supply partners generously donating all of the ingredients.

Donations were raised for Duchenne UK through ticket sales, a raffle and an auction. The gala dinner also saw colleagues from across Foodbuy provide all of the front of house and non-catering services.

Duchenne UK is the leading charity working towards accelerating treatments and finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most common genetic killer of children. Foodbuy has partnered with Duchenne UK for the last three years in which time it has raised over £350,000 for the charity.

Ian Murphy, Managing Director of Foodbuy said: “Our 2019 gala dinner has been our most successful ever and to raise £125,000 for a small charity in the space of one evening is an incredible achievement. We are very fortunate to have some fantastic supply partners and event sponsors and I want to thank everyone for their continued support.  The event couldn’t have happened without the support of our wider Foodbuy team and I was very proud of everyone pitching in to make the event a big success.”

Alex Johnson, Co-Founder and CEO at Duchenne UK, said: “I want to thank Foodbuy and their generous supply partners for their ongoing support. The gala dinner was a fantastic event and it raised a lot of money, all of which will go directly towards vital research into finding treatments and a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. We are a small charity and events like the Foodbuy gala dinner make a big difference in accelerating our research into Duchenne.”

The Foodbuy team’s fundraising attention now turns to endurance events with 40 colleagues training to take part in a 75km trek from Henley to Thames in 24 hours and seven colleagues training for the Duchenne Dash. The Duchenne Dash is a gruelling 24-hour bike ride from London to Paris, covering more than 200 miles. Cyclists pass through some of the most rural areas of France before finishing up the Champs-Élysées and at the Eiffel Tower.
