National Railway Museum recognised by Food for Life
The National Railway Museum and official catering partner Levy Restaurants UK in York has achieved a bronze Food For Life Catering Mark. The award provides visitors to the venue a guarantee that they are eating meals which are freshly prepared, healthy and sustainable.
Three catering concepts, the Countess of York, Dining Car Café and Mallard Café, all operated by Levy Restaurants UK, were recognised for their commitment to ethical, sustainable and fresh food.
Food for Life is part of the Soil Association, the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use. The menus have met the standards from the Soil Association to receive the award.
Local food suppliers that are prominent at the National Railway Museum include: butchery products from Styal Meats; bread from Hughes Bakery; craft beers from York Brewery; Yorkshire Tea from Taylors Teas; local cheese from The Cheese Cellar; fresh from Taylors Seafood; Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream; Seabrook Crisps are stocked throughout.

The Dining Car Restaurant allows guests to dine between two royal carriages, creating a unique culinary experience in a Victorian inspired dining car and 1920’s lounge. The Mallard Café is located amongst the museums magnificent locomotives offering guests breakfast and lunch including seasonal specials and nutritious kid’s menus. The Countess of York is a beautifully restored railway carriage offering luxury afternoon tea experiences surrounded by opulent decor and furniture.
