Steamplicity brings Christmas to the Worthing Town Cryers

Steamplicity, the innovative steam cooking system operated by Compass Group UK & Ireland, the UK’s largest food business, hosted it’s third ‘thank you’ Christmas lunch last week for dementia group the ‘Worthing Town Cryers’. The group supports people living with dementia from West Sussex.

The event was held at the Alzheimer’s Society in Worthing to celebrate this successful ongoing partnership. Fourteen guests were treated to traditional Christmas fayre, provided and cooked by the Steamplicity team. Using their unique patented steam cooking system utilised to cook fresh and raw ingredients, the lunch gives the team at Steamplicity the opportunity to thank the group for their continued help and support, in aiding the further development of its dementia-friendly service.

Steamplicity has been working with the group for three years, taking on board valuable information which has contributed to the development of a number of key initiatives, including refreshing the successful finger food menu. This helps to encourage people living with dementia to not only eat more, but also to try different tastes and textures. For those who experience difficulties with sight and perception, their blue plate options continues to support independent eating.

Originally brought together through the Alzheimer’s Society, who Compass’ Healthcare teams fundraising events have raised a staggering £254,995 to date to fund on-going research projects for those living with dementia. Working with the Worthing Town Cryers helps provide vital feedback for the Steamplicity team to further refine and enhance their dementia food offerings.

The Worthing Town Cryers proudly adopted their name because of their belief in a local voice on the subject of dementia. Compass UK and Ireland launched their Dignified Dining toolkit which enables residents and patients living with dementia to be given enhanced specialist support in relation to their food provision.

To start the afternoon off in true festive style, guests were treated to a bowl of warming cream of tomato soup, followed by roast turkey and all the trimmings. Those left with enough room, rounded off the meal with Christmas pudding. Additionally, and in recognition of their personal contribution to this successful partnership, each guest received a delicious box of chocolates and card as a gift of thanks.

Steve Cenci, Managing Director – Healthcare at Compass Group UK & Ireland said: “The ongoing feedback we receive from the Worthing Town Cryers’ dementia group is invaluable, and greatly assists in allowing us to shape our continuing food offers developed for those who live with dementia. I would like to personally say thank you to the group for their continued work with us, and also to those involved who have made it possible for us to return for this wonderful Christmas lunch for the third year running”.

Tim Wilkins, Service User Involvement Officer – West Sussex, Alzheimer’s Society, said: For the third year in succession, we were once again treated to a lovely Christmas lunch by the guys from Steamplicity. John, Alison and Johnno cooked, served and entertained the members to what was a thoroughly enjoyable and fun lunchtime. A massive thank you from the Worthing Town Cryers to the Steamplicity team”.
