Compass Graduate Programme Q&A
The Compass Graduate Programme is open for applicants for October 2024 start and we caught up with Jess Knight to find out more.
What’s your role?
Graduate Programme Manager. I have been here for 17 years and have worked across many of our HR functions; joining the Graduate Team in 2019 to see the relaunch of the Ops Graduate Programme.
Every year the programme goes from strength to strength. I get great job satisfaction from seeing our cohort grow in confidence from the early stages of recruitment, through their rotations and into longer term roles within our business, with the support of our workshops, reviews and mentors.
What is Compass’ Grad Programme?
Our programme is centred around developing key skills, behaviours and experiences through 4 x 6 month rotations across our business with the aim of developing our future leaders. To apply people need to upload their CV and tell us about what motivates them about joining our programme. Next there will be a Situational Judgement test to understand how the applicant deals with real-work scenarios. If successful there is a telephone interview and finally an Assessment Centre; where our Assessors will test individuals on their team working, leadership and communication skills.
The programme is based on hands on experiences and key deliverables, alongside formal training opportunities to support with on the job learning and the individual’s personal development.
Why is it different and what are the opportunities?
We have a unique opportunity in Compass Group UK & Ireland to give everyone a different pathway of experiences to help them find the right role for them in our business. Our operations are so diverse, catering to different customer and client demographics and in a business where change and innovation is at the forefront. We want to develop skills in our graduates that allow them to be resilient and agile within our business to develop long term careers with us.
For me it’s great to see people learn and develop. We have some great examples of Grads that started with us years ago and just keep thriving and developing their skills in the business – moving sectors and roles to create the career they want to carve out for themselves.
