Investing in future leaders: The Networking Navigator Journey

Blog

Over the past two months, three of our future leaders have taken part in The Networking Navigator – a six-session hybrid programme designed to build confidence and capability in professional networking. Created by Arena, the foodservice and hospitality networking association, the course combines online learning with expert-led sessions and this inaugural course culminated in the Arena Christmas event at the iconic Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

From crafting an elevator pitch to navigating a busy room with ease, the programme equips participants with practical skills that make a real difference in their careers.

Meet our future leaders

Megan Allan – Strategic Partnerships Manager, Restaurant Associates UK works closely with clients and internal teams to create tailored strategies that meet evolving needs while driving innovation in the contract catering market. She shared: “Being relatively new to the industry, I’ve found networking essential to my career. It opens doors to learning from experienced professionals, building genuine relationships, and sharing ideas. In such a fast-moving, competitive market, having a strong network sparks fresh thinking and new opportunities.”

Maya Hodgson – Marketing and Communications Manager, Foodbuy Group commented: “This programme has been a fantastic opportunity to learn from inspiring people across the industry, build my confidence, and develop new skills. Networking in foodservice is invaluable because there’s so much expertise to tap into. In today’s digital age, it’s easy to forget the impact of face-to-face conversations. I’ve learnt that creating connections often comes full circle meeting great people opens doors and opportunities. I’m grateful for this chance to connect and grow.”

Craig Beeston – Business Development Associate for Restaurant Associates, added: “This programme has been a great opportunity to build my confidence and develop my networking skills alongside so many young people in the industry. Connecting with people at different stages of their careers made every conversation feel meaningful, and I came away from each session with a real understanding of what others do and how we might be able to collaborate in the future. Learning from experienced peers while also sharing ideas with younger professionals has been incredibly valuable for my own development.”

The Networking Navigator programme, created by Arena is part of Arena Futures, which champions the next generation of talent in foodservice and hospitality. By supporting initiatives like this, we’re helping shape a stronger, more connected industry for the future.

Lorraine Wood  Director, Arena commented: “Born from a recognised industry need, the Arena Networking Navigator programme addresses a growing skills gap among early-career professionals, many of whom miss out on formative in-person networking experiences. The programme is designed to provide practical tools, build confidence, and fast-track participants’ ability to form relationships that drive commercial value and professional growth.”
