Blog

Compass Group UK & Ireland is delighted to have two of its female leaders feature in the Woman in Hospitality 2020 (WiH) ‘Women to Watch in Hospitality, Travel and Leisure Index 2019’. WiH is devoted to increasing women's representation and diversity in leadership positions across the Hospitality, Travel and Leisure industry and has produced this report in partnership with The MBS Group.

Donna Catley, HR Director, Compass Group UK&I has been recognised alongside Janet Wigley, Business Development Director, Compass Group UK&I along with two of our Group colleagues Clare Hunt, Group Director of Strategy and M&A and Sapna Sood, Executive Director, International Clients and Market Developments.

Nominations for inclusion in the Index were received for those women who stand out from their peer group and excel in any of the following areas: leadership, commercial impact, entrepreneurialism and innovation - thereby making a wider contribution in their sector or a wider contribution to society at large. The result is that it features the profiles of 90 exceptionally talented and inspiring woman from diverse backgrounds, nationalities, education, ethnicities, experiences and ages.

In its inaugural year - and notably a record year for promotions to senior roles for female talent - the Index highlights a monumental wealth of both personal and professional stories, successes, tips and lessons learnt from the 90 women featured who all share a common desire – to support other women with their aspirations of reaching the most senior levels within their organisations and ultimately, to have fulfilling and rewarding careers.

Our Group CEO, Dominic Blakemore, Group Chief Executive Officer, Compass Group spoke at this pivotal event and shared why he believes that profiling female role models in our industry is so important. However, we were also thrilled to see that the Index has recognised some of our very own talented individuals!

Dominic commented: “I believe that it is important for companies to encourage and nurture women in leadership roles, as this will attract more talented women to join our sector. It’s so important that women can look around our industry and see authentic role models from all backgrounds and with a variety of experience they can aspire to follow.”

Donna added: "I would really love to help establish a more meritocratic approach to progression; one where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and potential regardless of their class, gender or ethnicity.”

Janet concluded: “I joined Compass Group a few years after finishing my studies with a view to be on the executive board one day, but I couldn’t see a clear path to it, especially when I looked at senior operational or Managing Director roles. Since then, and especially in recent years, we’ve seen incredible, inspirational women being appointed in IT, legal, sales, HR and finance functions, and most importantly for me, MD roles.”

Our huge congratulations go to all those who have been recognised.
