Compass Group UK & Ireland recognised as Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer

News

Compass Group UK & Ireland, the UK’s largest catering firm, has been named a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer for the first time at the National Apprenticeship Awards on Tuesday.

The list, which is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service, and sponsored by City & Guilds, recognises the businesses that display the highest standards of excellence in employing apprentices.

The list was announced during the National Apprenticeship Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel, in London.

Compass Group UK & Ireland was shortlisted for the list after winning the BT Award for the West Midlands Macro Employer of the Year at the Regional Apprenticeship Awards in October.

Melanie Hayes, Resourcing and Developing Director for Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “It is a great achievement to be named in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list.

“Apprentices make up a valuable part of our business and as a leading apprenticeship employer we are very passionate about training those who we employ at the start of their careers with the right skills and knowledge for their future and for our business.”

As a whole, Compass Group UK & Ireland employs around 500 apprentices a year across the business with a view to increase the number of apprenticeships on offer in the future.

Commenting on Compass being named a top 100 Apprenticeship Employer, Sue Husband, Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “The top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list 2015 demonstrates clearly the impact apprentices can have on an organisation.

“These top 100 apprenticeship employers have made a difference to the lives of young people by investing in their future whilst apprentices themselves help employers to develop a skilled, qualified workforce that builds a stronger economy.

“Apprentice employers are creating opportunities for young people to gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, in some cases up to degree level, while working and earning.

“I hope that the success of these Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers will encourage more businesses across England to follow their example and find out how apprenticeships can help grow a skilled and highly qualified workforce.”
