Compass Healthcare Hero: Jean Simpson

News

Jean joined the catering team at The Christie Hospital in March this year and as she started to learn the ropes, everything changed as Covid-19 hit. Very much thrown in at the deep due to rapidly moving circumstances, Jean was initially concerned with the unknown, but her caring outlook meant that nothing stopped her in her endeavours to make sure that the patients at the hospital were comfortable, happy and safe.

To fully commit to her role at the hospital she has sacrificed seeing her family and has missed her grandchildren terribly throughout the crisis. But her ‘work family’ has grown to love and appreciate her as their mother figure and she has taken them under her wing to offer masses of emotional support and guide them through these tough times.

Throughout the pandemic she has never given up and has worked tirelessly, to support the patients being treated. The hospital specialises in oncology and many of the patients value her visits and commitment in making their treatment or final days that little bit more comfortable.

Her concern is always for others and not herself. It’s hard enough starting a new job, but in the current climate, she has shone as a real star and loved by all the team.

“I'm chuffed to bits to be a Healthcare Hero - I just wanted to get stuck in.” - Jean Simpson, Catering Assistant, The Christie Hospital (HCA)
