Jockey Club Catering completes clean drinking water project in India

News

Jockey Club Catering, a joint venture between The Jockey Club and Compass Group UK & Ireland, has completed its second clean drinking water project, in Pagidala, Andhra Pradesh, India. This has been achieved through its partnership with ethical bottled water company, Life Water, and associate charity drop4drop.

The Pagidala Community Well will provide clean water to a community of over 1,000 people and is vital as the geographical location of Andhra Pradesh means Pagidala regularly suffers from water scarcity, caused in part by frequent patterns of flooding and drought. This has severe effects on the 49 million people who rely upon agriculture for their livelihood.

By supplying Life Water at Jockey Club Racecourses, the team is helping to fund clean drinking water projects around the world. Last year saw the completion of Jockey Club Catering’s first clean drinking water project in the Magungu 3 community of Uganda.

Life Water provides consumers with a locally sourced, eco bottled water that funds the creation of clean drinking water projects in developing countries. Every bottle of Life Water sold funds the delivery of at least 1,000 litres of clean drinking water to a community in need. Life Water’s partner charity, drop4drop, works directly with in-country partners to identify communities in need of clean water before managing and developing each project.

Nick Campbell, managing director for Jockey Club Catering, commented: “We are thrilled to have completed our second project with Life Water and drop4drop. Relieving communities of time and work spent in the collection of water will allow children to spend more of their time in education therefore contributing to the rising levels of literacy.”

Jockey Club Catering is a joint venture between The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in British racing, and Compass Group UK & Ireland. The partnership was launched in 2009 with the aim of providing premium quality catering at all 15 of The Jockey Club racecourses. In 2013, the exclusive business relationship was extended until 2025.
