Tom’s Kitchen deli and bar at HMS Belfast now open

News

Tom’s Kitchen, the group of restaurants and delis founded by chef Tom Aikens, has recently launched a new deli and bar at the iconic London landmark HMS Belfast. This new site is located on the quayside of HMS Belfast, the most significant surviving Second World War Royal Navy warship, moored on the River Thames and open to the public with stunning views overlooking Tower Bridge, The Shard and the London skyline.

Opened on 11 March 2016, this new quayside venue at one of London’s star attractions has been designed with a fresh and contemporary feel with a 58 cover rooftop bar and 46 seat deli. Tom’s Kitchen will offer a new al fresco destination in the capital for passers-by, tourists, local office workers and residents alike who are looking for somewhere to eat out this summer.

The deli, open daily from 8am-6pm, offers a range of seasonal Tom’s Kitchen Deli dishes, including a Chicken & Chorizo Sandwich with beef tomato and spiced mayo on pumpkin bread; Roast Squash Salad with rocket, pecorino, sage and honey; and Homemade Sausage Roll with piccalilli and lambs lettuce. Freshly baked cakes and pastries are also available, such as Orange Polenta Cake and Homemade Jaffa Cake, as well as a range of teas, coffees and soft drinks, beers, wines and ciders.

The rooftop bar, open from noon until late, offers a menu of nautical themed cocktails, such as The Black Pearl (blackberry infused Beefeater gin, lemon, and Chambord blackberry liqueur, served on crushed ice); The Kraken (Four Roses Bourbon, maple syrup, Curious Brew stout and ice); and The Lifeboat Sidecar (Blackberry and Vanilla infused Martel cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice). A range of wines, beers and ciders are also available, as well as a selection of nibbles and sharing boards. The bar is part covered and part open air, allowing both Londoners and visitors to enjoy a new al fresco spot, just in time for spring.

Speaking of the opening, Tom Aikens, founder of Tom’s Kitchen restaurants and delis, commented: “The opportunity to create a Tom’s Kitchen Deli and Bar in such an extraordinary space is a real privilege.  Launching a new destination bar at one of London’s most iconic landmarks is very exciting and we hope it will become a new favourite on the South Bank for Londoners and visitors alike.”

Barry Smith, Assistant Director of Commercial Services, IWM added: “We’re excited to be working with Tom’s Kitchen on this venture. The bar and deli will offer HMS Belfast visitors the chance to relax and enjoy the scenic views over the river, adding a new element to the experience of touring a historic Second World War warship.”
