Happy Reserves Day!

Blog

Pete joined the Royal Air Force in 1987, and served at RAF College Cranwell for 6 years. After leaving the RAF he began work as a chef for the Ministry of Defence and has subsequently moved as contracts have evolved within catering support and now works for the defence business of the Compass Group UK & Ireland, ESS Support Services.

In his day job at RAF Cranwell, Pete is the Executive Head Chef at College Hall Officers’ Mess, where he manages a team of over 20 people.

Pete said: “I joined the RAF Reserve two years ago; although I had supported the RAF for 33 years, and served for six of those, I truly missed being part of the RAF and at 50 years old knew if I didn’t do it, I would always regret it. My reserve role as a chef is at 504 Squadron, RAF Wittering. Making a commitment to the reserves didn’t worry me as I had the support of both ESS and my family. My commitment to the Reserves is one weekend each month and then a further two weeks continual training per year. ESS provides 10 days extra annual leave towards training. I am extremely proud of both jobs I do, the teams I work for and the support and opportunities both 504 Squadron and ESS have given me has been fantastic allowing me to carry out both roles. I feel incredibly honoured to be serving again and would recommend it without hesitation”.
