Compass Healthcare Hero: Kelly Mayes

News

Kelly has been nothing short of remarkable during the past few months. The dedication to her role has been inspirational. To help with the increased pressure for housekeeping services Kelly put herself on the busier shifts, took on more work to cover those who needed to self-isolate or be at home with children, trained new recruits and volunteers to clean Covid-19 wards and moved closer to the hospital so that she could be available if she was needed at short notice.

Kelly then took the opportunity to go the extra mile, by offering to test facemasks to ensure that they fitted and served their purpose. This meant coming in on her much-needed time off, but Kelly appreciated that there was no time to lose in checking all of the PPE. Her enthusiasm to help has not diminished throughout and she has never sought recognition for any of her extra work. It’s clear that she is genuinely helping the national effort against Coronavirus.

She oversees a team of 140 people, with around 70 working on any given day, she has offered them support and led with conviction, setting the standards high.

Kelly is someone who can lift the spirits of her teammates with ease and her outgoing personality has brought our people even closer together during the past few months. She is always on top of her game and is truly a Healthcare Hero.

“It is rewarding to know that what I do on a daily basis makes a little difference to a patient’s day, I also enjoy working with my hard-working team.” - Kelly Mayes, Housekeeping Supervisor, Royal Surrey Hospital
